Many people find that a LLB law degree can help enhance their careers considerably. There are also many other individuals who would like to change their profession to become a top notch high earning lawyer. If you have a job, or other personal commitments, you will no doubt benefit greatly from the flexibility provided by a distance LLB education. Not only will you be able to study at your own pace, you also set the study hours. For most of us who have a day job, or family commitments, getting an LLB degree through distance education is probably the most sensible and logical option.
1. Is the LLB degree recognized by the Legal Qualifying Board and the Bar Council of your country, or the country you wish to practice in?
You will need to check with the relevant authorities to find out whether or not a distance learning LLB degree from the particular University is recognized. If you intend to practice the legal profession, then there is simply no point in studying like a possessed madman and sacrifice the many aspects of a normal life for an LLB degree that is not recognized. Believe it or not, I actually know someone who made this mistake – which means that he had to give up his ambition to become a lawyer, and use his qualification to get another job in another distant field.
2. Studying for the Relevant Course such as LPC (Legal Practice Course) or BVC (Bar Vocational Course) As Determined by the Relevant Legal Qualifying Board
As you graduate with a law degree, you do not immediately become a lawyer. You will then need to sit for a course such as LPC or BVC. This process will mostly take one to two years. You will need to pass the examination in order to qualify as a lawyer.
3. You will then need to undertake apprenticeship with a law firm for one to two years, depending on which qualifying course you have chosen to study for.
